Casa
Miguel Torga

Casa Miguel Torga results from the rehabilitation, museology and museography project promoted by the Regional Department of Culture of the North between 2017 and 2021 and co-financed by Turismo de Portugal. Casa Miguel Torga is supervised by the Municipality of Sabrosa and managed by Espaço Miguel Torga. The house was redeveloped by Andrée Crabbé Rocha, Miguel Torga's wife, in the late 1950s, giving rise to the layout seen today. Used as a holiday home until 2014, it was donated that year, along with its collections, by Clara Crabbé Rocha, Miguel Torga’s daughter, as a means of preserving the writer's legacy and for use as a public house-museum. The house has been listed as Property of Public Interest – IMP since 2019.

The Regional Department of Culture of the North is a decentralised body of the Ministry of Culture and its activity consists of safeguarding, preserving, restoring and disclosing – to the different audiences – the values of the material and immaterial culture existing in the region. This work is conducted in partnership with the region’s different agents, such as central administration institutions, local authorities, ecclesiastical institutions, educational institutions, associations, among others. The region’s wide range of skills and in-depth knowledge provide the Regional Department of Culture of the North with a comprehensive view of the culture sector. Hence, while respecting the specific characteristics of each area of intervention, the synergies between cultural heritage, museums and artistic production are promoted to harness the resources available and to forge mutually enriching relationships.
